You can’t donate it…companies realize how invaluable they are and you have to continue paying your maintenance fees until someone makes an offer to buy it. It’s not better than listing with a timeshare re-sale company except that you don’t have to pay fees up-front. (I know all of this because of my own experience trying to get rid of my timeshare.)

If you can come up with $600, there is a sure fire way to get rid of your timeshare. I have been scammed left and right, screwed and ripped off by these timeshare re-sale companies that promise to sell it for you in 6 months, etc. Just when I was about to pay a company like $1300 to transfer my timeshare out of my name, I found a guy named Robbie with IA Vacations (I actually found him at money4timeshares.com when I was desperately searching for a way to get rid of my timeshare.) I called and left a message. He called me back the same day and took my timeshare info. He said he would buy it from me if it was worth anything. I had been told 3 times it was worth $0.00 so when he told me he couldn’t buy it from me, I understood. I asked him if there was ANYTHING he could do for me…he said he could help if I want to give it away. He said "I have a closing company and for $600 they will transfer it out of your name." I was skeptical about paying one more company to get rid of my timeshare, but I took a leap of faith because he seemed so nice. I paid the $600 and 5 weeks later I got an email and letter by mail saying my timeshare had been transferred out of my name. There is no better feeling. I called the resort and they couldn’t find me in the system! No record of me being an owner.

If I ever wanted to buy one – I would go to ebay.
There are many beachfront ones going for just $1
You just have to take over the fees.

There are agencies that will help you sell it.
They will charge you – not cheap.
They will show your place and perhaps – maybe get someone to bite.
There are absolutely no guarantees that they will ever sell it.

Reviews are negative – mostly because its so hard to sell a timeshare.
And people can end up paying thousands upon thousands to try to sell.

You can also donate it to a church.
Google "Clark Howard CNN donating a timeshare".
This can only be done if the timeshare is paid in full already.

You must tell your friends -
It is always cheaper to rent a gorgeous condo for your stay than it is to get a timeshare.
I’m a cost analyst and have done the math.
And it baffles me what the advantage is.
It’s my financial mind that blocks me from seeing the positive side to a timeshare.

You can try selling or donating it as long as you are patient and realize that it may take a long time before anything happens. People are not looking to buy timeshares especially now. Charities are not looking to take on liabilities that they have to pay for year after year in maintenance fees and potentially special assessment bills.

Look into what’s referred to as timeshare relief companies or timeshare transfer companies. Make sure you do your research. Companies should have a high rating with the BBB and a long track record. You should also know who runs the company, i.e. are they transparent to you. Are they willing to show you who they are and are proud of what they are doing.

You’ll be able to get rid of your timeshare for a fee. The alternative is to hold onto the timeshare year after year paying maintenance fees as you go.
