Whitney Houston Cause of Death – Time to Legalize Drugs?
The cause of death for singer Whitney Houston is not yet known but many are speculating that drugs were involved (and prescription drugs were reportedly found in her Los Angeles hotel room). Singer Tony Bennett had this to say: ” I’d like every person in this room to commit themselves to get our government to legalize drugs. So they have to get it from a doctor, not just some gangsters that just sell it under the table.”* Ana Kasparian and Cenk Uygur discuss on The Young Turks. www.huffingtonpost.com www.rawstory.com * www.mediaite.com Subscribe to The Young Turks: bit.ly Find out how to watch The Young Turks on Current by clicking here: www.current.com The Largest Online New Show in the World. @watercup123456 Dude relax! I’m not one of those hate mongerers that says it kills you immediately or one time use makes you crazy. I’m saying that severe use over a long period of time may lead to these illnesses as a worst case scenario. Just like alcohol. I also said I’m for legalizing it, just with a healthy sense of caution just like with alcohol. read carefully, do some research (check out google scholar) and excersize a little civil discourse before insulting people.
@Ostrasize Look I’m talking about severe use over a long period of time. I know the subject needs more research, but just to deny any facts towards that direction doesn’t help anybody. I’m not taking any sides here, nor am I trying to demonize cannabis. Just pointing out some issues to look at more closely. Google search the royal college of psychiatrists and mental health, just to name one source. I could send you something in german (thats where I study) if you can read it…
@madmoddersparkler Look, Youtube is not exactly the perfect place to present substantial research. But you can google search (better yet google scholar) cannabis and mental health or certain symptoms. I know the findings aren’t conclusive enough yet to make exact statements, and yes, cannabis is not heroin or meth. My point is just not to ignore the findings just because some people “want” it to be harmfree because they like it.
@kd5eej Don’t “lol” if you are not taking the issue seriously.
@orionantares Well the cotton candy was a metaphor. But I that’s exactly my point. severe OVERUSE seem to be related to certain health issues. I’m not saying it kills you or is equal to meth or heroin, all I’m saying is to talk about it with a reasonable amount of caution and objectivity and not make it seem like something absolutely harmfree and ignore the findings. Not every country is in a “war on drugs” where people feel the need to take sides.
@watercup123456 Also, cannabis doesn’t “cure” cancer, it helps allieviate some of the sympons. If it helps the healing process is not conclusive either, still a lot of discussions in the scientific realm. So first get your own facts straight before you go on unnecessary rants against anonymous people on youtube.
@zippy3421 I know that correlation is not the same as causation. I’ve studyied sociology and currently a psych-student. Yet correlation doesn’t mean the abscence of an effect either. And yes, the research is not conclusive yet, and it is not clear what the connection is. But just to ignore findings (since TYT is all about facts), is just not the way to go. This whole issue just needs to be dealt with in a more critically and objective, without taking absolute sides.
@PhantomofFire Youtube doesn’t let me post links. But just check out google scholar, look for cannabis and mental health. I’m not saying there is absolte proof, but there are some issues to be looked at more carefully before saying how harmful it is or that it’s absolutely harm free.
@OneKidChanges We’re not talking about life or death, were talking about mental health. By that rationale you could say that rape is no big deal because nobody has died directly through rape. But that’s not the point. Yes, there are way worse drugs than marijuana and the findings on the effects aren’t conclusive enough to make exact statements, but you can’t just say therefore is is totally fine with no side effects whatsoever.
@BigWill83 “Don’t “lol” if you are not taking the issue seriously.”
So only “lol” if I am taking the issue seriously?
@BigWill83 Word man, have a good day.
@WH012Vids She was as fake as all the rest of em. “..never to walk in anyones shadow” then ODs like Joplin, hendrix, jackson, winehouse, ledger, and 1000s more. So concerned about her kid she let her drink booze underage – ya want more evidence your honor?
Brilliant? Had it all blew it on drugs, booze. Brilliant? Showed her kid how to do the same. Brilliant? Got back with the guy who got her started. Brilliant? was in so poor health Dr siad she’d never survive simple plastic surgery. Brilliant? Drink booze with 3-4 types of dangerous med she didnt need ODs and dies in a bathtub – yep BRILLIANT!
@russelljds You are so bitter… Nobody is saying she was a GOD. Yes she made mistakes and bad choices. She’s human! How about instead of putting her down you show some respect. All you want to do is bring up her mistakes, as if you are perfect. Im sure she has accomplished so much more than you, and helped so much more people. So instead of hating on her, if you have nothing nothing nice to say, i suggest you say nothing at all. R.I.P Whitney We love you!
Dr. Was generalizing…theorizing..based on factoids learned from bullshit tabloids. Don’t hate in whitney.. why u hate on raw female talent like Amy Winehouse and Whitney..common thing is they r rebel warrior. Your little peepee threatened by their Sex and talent so u defame them. Stick lit crack pipe into your a s S. Lite your mouth. Doddtown send u one way ticket to partay…
@WH012Vids you would be wrong (the helping people bit) but more importantly I am simply saying she was NOT brilliant by the evidence. It was HER actions not my imagination. She was a female who san songs well and acted some – so what? I dont hate her I hate the “icon” status she represented that furthers the superficial and fake. That inspires other to be the same way. She had talent ok – so do most circus animal acts.
I’m afraid I can’t follow the logic here. How would her death have been prevented had all drugs been legal? Are you saying that she was denied access to marijuana, and therefore took a dangerous perscription drug instead? I’m not making light of this tragedy, I just don’t see the connection.
lol I didnt defame anyone – they did it to themselves. If ya cant deal with the truth of it all not my problem. She ODed from booze and illegally gotten legal drugs after ruining her own life/career – I didnt make that up. I aint sayin she was a talentless hack nor that her music was crap – but if a persons value is based on “talent” – you make those who are “average joes” worthless by comparision and THAT is bullshit.
@russelljds You are just a bitter, ridiculous, ignorant fool.. I don’t even know why i’m wasting time debating with you. You obviously don’t know any of her charity work. You know nothing about her accomplishments. And obviously you are PERFECT, because you know nothing about what it means to be human. Whatever you say wont change the fact that she’s loved by millions and has touched so many. WHITNEY HOUSTON = ICON. Bye bye.
@russelljds I think you’re missing the point. It’s easier to project than reflect. When you’ve built a legacy of your own that touches the masses, then you can be critical of her life and contributions. It doesn’t mean “average joes” are worthless; it means that the average guy or gal can appreciate someone who has touched the lives of others. I would like you to look inside of yourself and tell me: Are you perfect? If the answer is no, then you need to be quiet. With all due respect
@rbauer1632 I think it has to do with removing the stigma and substance bias. Why is a harmless drug like marijuana being withheld from many people who could be helped by its medicinal effects, where as other potent & dangerous drugs are freely legally prescribed and kill people all the time? Not to mention alcohol! People are not going to start of stop doing drugs b/c of their legality. They tried that with alcohol prohibition, and all that did was create more crime.
I don’t mind the argument about legalizing Marijuana, but I don’t think they should have argued the opposite for prescription drugs. They may be abused by some, but for many people with suffering from a mental illness – this is necessary. I have no idea who Tony Bennet is, but it’s important to remember that even if cocaine, heroine, or meth were legalized and could be available in a hospital setting – these are highly addictive drugs that cannot be controlled 24/7 by the hospital.
this was realy stupid, what the fuck did they say???
Not surprised.
