Why Do People Feel the Need to Advertise Their Beliefs?

It’s like they’re trying to sell timeshares or something.

    Hey Carisa,

    How are you

I must admit I’m guilty as charged.

I think it is largely about wanting to help others. When we think we have something to offer others it also makes us feel good about ourselves to share.

But the truth is everybody has this "something" of value. It’s available to us all.

We sometimes naively think others won’t find the way without our help. This is a terrible position to take.

Sure we can help others in need by sharing what has helped us along the way, but the problem comes when we hold the belief that others must necessarily follow our way.

I find it best to offer my way to those who ask and TRY not to advertise–but it’s hard sometimes.

    Best wishes,

I’m asked why I believe in no god, I tell them why. No advertisement.

In the same way, let your light shine before others, so that they may see your good works and give glory to your Father who is in heaven.

Because most people think they’re right and everyone else is wrong.

I think it depends on the individual, and competing reasons can exist for one person. Some are truly trying to help people, in their own way—-they really do believe that their god will send people to hell for not following their specific brand of theology verbatim. "Advertising their beliefs" is their own way of trying to make sure that individuals don’t go to hell….and as annoying as it is to be evangelized, I do sort of appreciate that intention, for some people. For others it is an ego thing.
    Peace

    Some do. Some don’t.

Christians talk about the Gospel because Jesus commanded it in what is called The Great Commission.

If you don’t want to read about other peoples beliefs then I have to wonder, why the hell are you here?

Just as you enjoy exchanging your ideas with the Yahoo answers community; some people enjoy sharing and exchanging their ideas with others. Its part of learning about the beliefs of other people as well. People who believe the Bible want to share it with others because they believe they have something that is precious to them and feel it is worth sharing. Also, for some it is part of their belief. In the Bible it says to Preach the Good News of the Kingdom. So, therefore many view it as something expected from them. However, along with this work there should be no collection taken, no monies should be asked for. It should be given to others freely without paid ministers, priests or rabbis. If they truly believe what they have is important, why would they ask money for their services as if it were a timeshare or advertisement?

I believe it is a form of conspicuous consumption like wearing brand name clothes. Maybe more of an identity thing.
